AN INTRODUCTION We’re continuing our series of art shows with an expansive mash-up media event. In an attempt to take things to the next level, we hope to showcase everything from culinary arts to fashion. With that in mind, we proudly present to you “808s and Solid Snake,” an art show inspired by two individuals who have captured our imaginations throughout the years: Kanye West and Hideo Kojima. From an outside perspective, these two artists couldn’t seem more different from each other. Kanye West is a rapper with a volatile persona. Hideo Kojima is a game designer with an affinity for American culture and is most famous for creating Metal Gear. But if you look at their eccentricities more closely, you’ll start add up similarities. Kanye West and Hideo Kojima are vexing blends of forces. Both are iconic. Both are divisive: loved and hated. Both construct and deconstruct genres on a whim. Both can be intentionally abrasive in their work. Both have beef with their respective industries’ leaders and throw shade accordingly. The 2017 OKC 48 Hour Film Project

On Friday July 21, The 48 Hour Film Project returns to OKC for the OKC 48 Hour Film Project. The project assigns teams and filmmakers a character, prop, line of dialogue and a genre to make a movie within. Teams will then make their films in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas with films being given a 48 hour time limit to run from scripting all the way to competition. Teams will have a single weekend to write, shoot and edit their short films! On Friday, July 21, at 7pm more than 30 OKC teams will learn their elements before heading off to the races! If you see filmmakers around the city filming , don't forget to be supportive and courteous of their film needs. The screenings of these short films will be held the following weekend, July 30th, the Oklahoma City Farmer's Market at 4pm.

Ray Harryhausen – Mythical Menagerie Gallery Opening

On July 28, The Science Museum Oklahoma as we unveils their newest smART Space exhibition, “Ray Harryhausen – Mythical Menagerie.” This comprehensive exhibition of the original models, prototypes, bronzes, sketches and storyboards of the fantasy films of stop-motion animation pioneer Ray Harryhausen will open to the public July 29 to Dec. 3, 2017. The exhibition is the first of its kind in the U.S. and will include original art and models from five 20th century Harryhausen classics: “Clash of the Titans,” “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad,” “Jason and the Argonauts,” “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad” and “Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.” This gallery opening is free and open to the public. Join the rest of the OKC film community in watching the world premiere of OKC's 2017 48 Hour Film Project short films! Starting at 4:00pm on Sunday July 30 at the Oklahoma City Farmer's Market, the submissions for this year's contest will each be screened. The 48 Hour Film Project is one of Oklahoma City's biggest gatherings of filmmakers after deadCenter. This is the perfect place to meet other creative storytellers, catch an excellent shortfilms or spend the evening with your friends. Tickets are $15 or $20 at the door.
